Day 4, no heat, but the part has been ordered.

I’m tired of talking about the lack of heat. Here are some other things going on:

  • This is my description of how I broke the blinds on the big window in my apartment as told to Carr during our AIM discussion today (capitalization and spelling are how I type without spelling/grammar check):
‘well, i have no heat so i was in a bad mood anyway. so i was making
sure that the windows were locked becuase when they are locked there
is a tighter seal with the window and the outer window parts. i put
the blinds up to check. went to put the blinds down and only the left
side would go down. now the left side was all the way down and the
right side was all the way up. i pulled on the cord but the right
side was just stuck. i first ripped off the fake blinds at the top
that cover up the blind housing thing at the top of the window. this
also broke the 3 clips that hold the fake blinds on the blind housing
thing. then i started punching it until the pieces inside rattled.
now neither side would go up or down. things were worse. i took the
whole damn thing down and bent the metal housing thing back into shape
and reattached the cord mechanism thing inside. i held up the whole
thing and pulled on the cords and both sides went up and down without
    any problems. problem solved.’
  • Lots of good DVDs are still to come in 2004:
    • 11/30 – Spider-Man 2; Billy Madison/Happy Gilmore Set
    • 12/07 – Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
    • 12/14 – Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (Extended Edition)
    • 12/21 – Napoleon Dynamite
    • 12/28 – Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

There are also many excellent discs the first part of 05.

  • I finished The Descent last night. It was an excellent read. I have a few questions about the conclusion that I might try to find the answers to somewhere on the internet. I went ahead and picked up Year Zero also from Jeff Long. Originally I reported that I liked Jeff Long’s writing because it was ’super fast paced’. I’d like to amend that statement. Its not that the book is very fast paced, its that pivotal moments in the story are just instantly revealed. They are just sprung upon the reader and then the story continues on like nothing happened. Its really quite different than anything I have read before.

Its like going to see Star Wars and it going like this, ‘Hey, I’m Luke Skywalker. I live on this boring ass planet called Tatooine. I own these two droids. DARTH VADER IS MY FATHER! I live with my aunt and uncle. We farm moisture and drink some weird blue colored milk at dinner. LEIA IS MY SISTER! There is this old dude that lives out in the Jundland Wastes named Ben. He has a beard.’. Ok, so its not chronologically accurate, but you get the idea. I can only hope that Year Zero has a similar style.

That’s it for now.

Day 3, still no heat.

Today has gone much like the previous two days. Namely, no one has fixed my heat. I was able to speak with Fransico, the head of the maintenance crew for my apartment company and he informed me that it would be difficult to get the needed parts since it is Sunday. Not terribly surprising. He did offer to put me up in a hotel, which was nice, but I declined. To tell the truth, it hasn’t really been that cold at night. Or, at least, I haven’t noticed it due to my super warm comforter.

Anyway, the main goal here is to get it fixed before we get a string of nights in a row where it is in the 30’s or less. It looks like the next week is going to be ok.

I can’t wait to call the leasing office tomorrow and bitch at them some more.

Day 2, no heat.

It seems that I have a bad sequencer in my heating unit thing. I have no idea what that means, but it results in the fan coming on and only blowing cold air. Its now always on. The thermostat is doing nothing. The temporary solution is to switch off the circuit breaker. That’s just beautiful. It’ll be another day before something can be done. I think I should get some free rent out of this.

An alternate title for this post is, ‘This R2 Unit Has A Bad Motivator’.

During the hottest part of the summer, my AC broke. So, naturally the first time I actually need warmth this year (going to be 34 tonight) my heat is broken. Since 11 this morning, I have placed 3 calls to the on-call people here at my apartment complex and have not heard back once. Since it is the day after Thanksgiving, the actual office is closed, so there is really no one that I can yell at in person. That’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

The last three times something has broken, I have had to either fix it myself or complain multiple times. I don’t know if there is new management here or what, but this is unacceptable. I’m not even going to say what brand of apartment I live in, because they don’t deserve any free publicity.

It’s currently 64 degrees in my apartment and I anticipate a cold night.

UPDATE (10:15pm):
3 visits from the maintenance man have yielded no heat. The story is that he is on-call from a different complex from the same apartment company and he does not have access to our supply room-shed thing so he can’t get the needed part. It won’t be until tomorrow now before I have heat. Hope I don’t freeze Jack Torrence style.

If you don’t hear from me in a few days, someone please call my mom. Thanks.

Thanks, Wedge.

Happy Thanksgiving.

[Miss TURKEY / World 2002, Azra Akin.]

A bit of older news for those of you that are up on your entertainment stuff. Apparently Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash is out in favor of an Evil Dead remake. Yep, you read that right. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert along with Ghost House Pictures are teaming up to do the unthinkable and remake this horror classic. I cannot begin to describe my disappointment in this decision. Wait, I’ll try.

The rumors floating around are as follows:

  1. Raimi is not going to direct. He, along with the others, will be involved as Producers or some crap.
  2. Worst of all, Bruce is not going to be Ash. What? How could that be? Who is Ash if not Bruce Campbell? The part is impossible for anyone else to play. Period. That’s it. Over. End of line.

Now I suppose that other horror freaks were pissed about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and the Dawn of the Dead remake, or for that matter, the hundreds of flavors of Dracula and Frankenstein. But, this is different because it pisses ME off.

Also, there are those that claim that The Evil Dead has already been remade. They would claim that that movie was called Evil Dead II. But, I disagree with this. The root of the confusion here is the recap in the beginning, which for the sake of money, time, etc. the cast was shrunk a bit and the story changed some. Evil Dead II is very much a sequel. So there.

Yeah I’ll go see it and I may even like it. But, I’ll be that guy in the theater that keeps saying, ‘It was better when Bruce gouged out Scotty’s eyes with his thumbs’ or ‘Hey, remember when Raimi used the Ram-O-Cam for that shot in the original?’. And people will have to listen to it.

Oh and the word is that Freddy vs. Jason 2 is still looking promising. Just no Ash.
