I went to ZipZoomFly.com to check my order status for the new digicam and I noticed that they are offering the SD200 for only $240.00 now. That’s a whole $5 less than just yesterday. Damn them.
I went ahead and placed an order for the Canon PowerShot SD200 Digital ELPH today. I found it for $245.00 at ZipZoomFly.com (formally GoogleGear.com, but never associated with Google). I’ve purchased from ZZF before and they are great. Free 2nd Day FedEx delivery and obviously great prices.
But back to the camera. It basically has everything I was looking for: 3.2 megapixel (I don’t need more than that), 3x optical zoom, and it doesn’t use AA batteries. It also features a phat-ass 2 inch LCD screen. This is huge for such a small camera. For the camera nerds out there, it has Canon’s new DIGIC II image processor. I don’t know what that means, but II is higher than I and therefore most likely better. This is a huge step up from my 1.3 megapixel starter digital cam I picked up a few years ago.
At least four people I know own some smallish Canon camera and were more than happy to recommend them to me. There are also very positive reviews from digital camera review sites for this specific camera. These helped to ease my fears of the E18 error that I mentioned earlier this week. Either way, I can’t imagine that a quality company like Canon would let a design problem persist from generation to generation of cameras. But, I suppose we’ll see.
I should have it sometime early next week, so I’ll be sure to post what I think and some sample photos at that time.
An excellent behind-the-scenes featurette for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe can be found at the Apple trailer site.QuickTime will be needed to view. Dear whoever is making decisions on this film, good choice in going with WETA for the effects work. They should have plenty of experience bringing such a fantasy world to life after their work on the LOTR trilogy.
And, while you’re there, checkout the trailer for Sin City. I don’t know anything about the source material, except that it is from a graphic novel, but it looks pretty interesting. Also, I have no problem with movies that have Jessica Alba pole dancing.
I feel like treating myself to a new digital camera. So, over the weekend I began the process of research that should come with any purchase of this calibre. All I can say at this point is that I think I don’t want to get a new digital camera anymore. I am not totally sure what I need or want in a camera. I think maybe I spend too much time on this crap.
I was all set to buy one of those Canon ultra-compacts, but then read a lot of complaints of something called an ‘E18′ error. With this error the lens retractability fails and does not retract anymore. That is serious enough to force me to start looking at other options.
Dammit.

Happy holidays to everyone from everyone (me) here at bobafred.com.
I spent way too much time yesterday trying to make Blogger’s crappy comment system fit into my site, but to no avail. You see if you turn on comments, you also have to turn on what Blogger calls ‘post page archiving’. With this genius idea, you get an entire separate page for every post you publish. I realize that memory is cheap, but this seems wasteful to me. I mean, sometimes I’ll just post something like, ‘Blogger and its commenting system suck ass’, and I would get an entire extra .html or .php page just for that one line of text. Plus, it just doesn’t fit in with how my site is designed. And I don’t want to redo it all again.
As a result of all of this, I will not be using Blogger’s comments unless I can figure out a way to make them work for me. I think I am smarter than Blogger, but so far I am not.
