Box Office Mojo is estimating a huge $20+ million opening weekend for Hostel. This total will land the horror flick in the #1 spot. Not bad for a movie that had a budget of $4.8 million.
I attempted to go see it on Friday, but it was sold out. So I went and saw it on Saturday night and thought it was great fun. Unlike Eli Roth’s last movie, Cabin Fever, this one was lighter on the humor and heavier on the sick craziness. That being said, there were a few moments throughout that got some laughs. But as a whole, the movie is straight up horror goodness with makeup effects by the artists at KNB.
The movie portrays some pretty graphic torture scenes and may not be for the squeamish. There have been reports of people passing out during the film and the paramedics having to be called, but sadly, that didn’t happen at the theater I was at. I did see someone trip and fall on the stairs, though. That almost made up for it.
I’ve been posting about this movie quite a bit over the past few months and I’m glad that it turned out to be kickass and successful. Everyone should remember where they first heard about Hostel and thank me. Roth’s next project that I am most looking forward to is a collaboration with Richard Kelly called The Box. I’ll predict right now that it’ll be a good one.
I don’t think there were any moments quite as memorable as Pancakes. But, that would be tough to live up to. There were some parts that got a few chuckles, though.

I knew you’d rush right out. Glad to hear it met your expectations. Please tell me there was at least one moment equivalent to the ever-famous “Pancakes!” scene in this latest endeavor?
