Adam, or Ducky, has created a pretty nifty web app using the Google maps API called walk. jog. run.. Ok, so he actually created it awhile ago, but just recently updated it to use Google maps. And, I have to say that it is pretty impressive. You plot your course along the map and it tells you useful info like distance, time, etc. If I walked. jogged. or ran. I would use it.
Maybe I’ll use it to plot a course for my upcoming trip to Chicago in September. Might be overkill, but could be a nice stress test.
I got the Forrest Gump reference, and it made me laugh. Just thought you’d like to know.
hollismb: Sometimes my runs are not restricted to the roads. I like to run through people’s back yards and scare them.
edgemoor: Thanks. I can always count on you.
note: carriage returns are not working in comments. will have to look at that.
You’re my boy blue!
Yeah, I thought of the whole cross-country aspect of it, especially for those people who might run through a park. Maybe it could be an option, to stick to roads or not. Then again, I’ve done some messing with the API stuff, and I’m not sure that’s even possible.
I too got the Forrest Gump reference.

That is a pretty cool little tool, but it could use a little work, like I think it only calculates the straight-line distance, not the actual road distance, which means you’ve got to put in a lot of checkpoints around curves and whatnot. It also ends up telling me that my usual run is 3.6 miles, when it’s actually closer to 4.1 when I’ve clocked it.
