I made a change to my permalink structure so that links would look like this:
http://www.bobafred.com/index.php/archive/mother-shitter/
instead of like this:
http://www.bobafred.com/?p=363
The main reasons that I decided to change were for readability of the URL and because apparently search engines like words better than numbers in URLs. Anyway, the old link style will still get you to the right post, so everything should be good.
Hey Greg, you might want to check out this post on the subject: http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/wordpress-tip-on-permalink-options/.
The comments section has some possible workarounds for Windows/IIS. I tried them on the box running my local WP install, but couldn’t get any of them to work. Maybe you’ll have more luck.
I tried them, but nah… no luck… Not really that important for me anyways, only for asthetic reason more than anything
I like the intuitive linking structure better too. I even opted for the LONG one… I am such a masochist sometimes, I guess.
Well, I’ve found a problem with this. All my OLD Blogger posts that don’t have titles, because that used to be a Pro feature for Blogger, don’t like this link structure.
I guess the easy solution would be to go through and put titles to all these posts so that post slugs get generated. I’ll fix this at some point.
