Saw II

Yesterday I purchased and watched Saw II on the shiny disc. Just to remind the haters out there, I thought the first Saw was excellent and was very much looking forward to part dos.

<spoilers>

Jigsaw is up to his games again. This time a group of seemingly unrelated people are trapped in a house filled with a lethal nerve gas and plenty of booty traps (that’s what I said, booby traps!). To win the game they must find the antidote that is stashed in various locations throughout the house before they cease to be alive anymore. Some of the antidote can be obtained alone, and some of it requires the group to work together.

Without giving too much away, lots of other stuff happens too.

While I was watching I was thinking to myself that this was definitely not as good as the first. But, then the ‘holy shit!’ moment happened and the whole thing kicked ass. It was great. If I’ve learned anything from Jigsaw, it’s to wait for the ‘holy shit!’ moment. Also, don’t do drugs, take your life for granted, pretend you are sick and unable to work, etc.

Tobin Bell turns in an excellent performance as Jigsaw. He’s creepy, yet vulnerable at the same time. The rest of the acting feels above average for a low budget horror flick, but nothing spectacular. Having a large group of people involved in the game this time gave the filmmakers some more room to create a bunch of memorable, painful events. Remember the reverse bear trap from the first Saw? Yeah, painful like that. It all works well.

IMDb already has a listing for Saw III, which is slated for release later this year. I welcome the idea of a third Saw flick. It’s been many years since a quality horror series existed.

    more spoiler type stuff…

I loved Saw II but I really didn’t like the relationship between reverse bear-trap girl and Jigsaw… I just didn’t get it and they didn’t sell me on it in the movie… other than that, I just love those wonderful toys he puts together. Can’t wait for III.

Saw one scared the shit out of me… especially when that guy got up off of the floor at the end. That was a little too much for me… Perhaps I will add saw II to my fright fest 2006 list; but I say that with some trepidation.

DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN SAW II.

dave: Agreed. They’re trying to make it like he saved her, but it was very weak. I only hope that she doesn’t become the main bad guy in III. That would probably ruin things.

duane: You should definitely watch it for fright fest 2k6. It’s no worse than the first as far as blood and gore. Actually, it’s probably a little lighter. The first one was definitely more creepy/intense than this one.

The person who directed it graduated from the school I am going to.

He originally wrote the script as something else, and it was the producers that encouraged him to re-work it into a Saw film.

    A little neat inside info.

I read about how it was a script that he had been trying to get made for awhile and then it sort of morphed into a Saw movie.

Didn’t know that he went to your school, though. That’s pretty cool.

What about that annoying 7th Heaven bitch, Beverly Mitchell? I was absolutely shocked seeing her in a role that is a complete 180 from her normal crap.

Thanks for letting me borrow it. Good stuff.

Oh yeah, I also enjoyed her cleavage.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you she was in it. I had no idea before viewing either. And cleavage is good.
