He Was Running

Big congratulations to Adam for completing the San Francisco Marathon this past weekend. According to the internet, he clocked in at 4:06:52, which put him at 1284th place out of 4021. Awesome.

All I know is that 26.2 miles is about 3 days worth of driving to and from work for me. I can’t even imagine running that much at one time. Quite an accomplishment.

Last night was the March APWBWGTTD meetup at the Bucket Shop Cafe. The crowd was pretty big, with at least 20 people there. In a way, it’s good that a bunch of people bitched-out because they were scared of Buckhead or to go see some crap band, because any more and we would have been severely pushing the limits of our server’s skills. I had the french dip, which was pretty good, but not as good as the Brewhouse Cafe french dip. And for those that are interested, the Bucket Shop has excellent wings. Get the hot, they aren’t too hot.

Now, I’m horrible with names, but I remember at least meeting ATL Malcontent. There were other new folks too, but like I said, bad with names. So, sorry about that.

We closed out the evening at the Trackside Tavern in The Dec, where we enjoyed some additional drinks and darts. The teams were pretty balanced with Team Awesome made up of Duane and me, and Team Other Team made up of Dave and some dude at the bar with his own darts. Yeah, he was pretty good, but Team Awesome lived up to its name and won a couple. Go Team Awesome!

And finally, since atlbloggers.net is so crowded and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to find the blogs that I try to read everyday, I’ve added two more to the sidebar. So, welcome Daily Dose of Dave and Scam City. It was a difficult decision to add Dave, because everyone knows I hate that guy.

Supper Bowl 2k6

Mark and Sarah hosted another fun Super Bowl party last night. This year’s highlights were the great food and the imaginary $30 I won in the imaginary pool.

Let’s take a minute to talk about the important stuff: the homemade food. Mark’s legendary chicken nachos were a returning favorite from last year’s party, and a welcome return they were. As far as I’m concerned, it’s really not a party without nachos. Next up was the spinach and artichoke dip that was also very good and healthy because it has vegetables in it. Right? The main course for us meat eaters was a huge pot of chili that had the perfect amount of heat and deliciousness. For those that prefer vegetables, there was a corn chowder option. I was pretty stuffed and didn’t try the chowder, but I think it was all eaten, so it must have been good. I’ll pace myself better next year, promise.

Oh, and there was the game which I didn’t really care about since the Giants sucked it up in the playoffs.

Thanks Mark and Sarah!

Seth over at Mostly Muppet has done a fine job of expressing the emotions of UGA fans during the 2006 Nokia Sugar Bowl.

Yesterday I joined Marcos for some Clemson football action. It was an excellent game with the Tigers winning 49-20 over the Duke Blue Devils. At least for Duke, basketball season is just around the corner.

The weekend started off with us stuck behind stupid slow driving Gwinnett County drivers on our way to Clemson, SC on Friday night. When we got there we found that some of Mark’s friends were not coming up until Saturday day for the game. We still managed to have a great time, though, as we toured the bars with the people that were there. As with most college towns, the drinks were cheap as hell. A round of 2 beers and a rum and coke cost only $8.50. To add to the feeling of being back in college, I slept on a futon. It was great.

The biggest disappointment of the weekend was that not only did Patches McCroakies miss the Friday night fun, but he didn’t even come up for the game. Apparently he was sick or something, but come on. WEAK! How often am I in Clemson, wearing orange, and cheering for the Tigers? ‘Never’ would be the correct answer.

We had a fun time and since the game had no affect on the UGA season, I didn’t have a problem cheering for the Tigers. I did, however, keep it real by wearing my Bulldog hat, which might not have been greatest idea. The plan was that if anyone tried to start shit, I would just yell, ‘South Carolina Sucks!’. Thats pretty much the equivalent to saying ‘Georgia Tech Sucks!’ to a UGA fan. Instant friendship would ensue.

Golf! Arg!

I’m a pretty bad golfer. I’ve never really participated in any other activity that I am this consistently bad in. Usually I’ll just give up, because I’m a quitter. But, there’s something about going to the golf course with friends and hitting some balls around that is fun. Today was no exception as I golfed it up with my buddy David.

Most people calculate how well they do by their score. My score is usually pretty high, so I tend to determine how well I played by how many balls I lose. I tore out of the gate today and only lost four balls on the front nine. That’s pretty good for me. Then after a hot dog and Cheetos, I lost substantially more on the back nine. So many, that I stopped counting. It wasn’t my best day.

I’ve actually played 3 times this year, which doesn’t really sound like a lot, but they have all come in the past 4 months or so. Previous years I’ve averaged around 1 time per, and even though today’s outing might not have proven it, I am getting a little better. Recently, its been a mix of a better grip learned from Marcus and a better follow through from David that have helped.

We played at Gold Creek in Dawsonville, GA. Its a long drive for me, and I had to get up early as shit to make the 9:32 tee time, but it was worth it. Nice, wide open fairways, not too much water, and its well maintained. My only complaint would be that their site doesn’t work correctly in FF 1.0.7.
